At its spring meeting, the GSE honored Superintendent Jim Schlachter for his service to the Advisory Council. Schlachter leads the Gresham-Barlow School District but plans to retire from education at the end of the 2016–17 school year. He started his career as a teacher in the middle grades, covering science and math, and then moved into administration, serving as a principal in Gresham-Barlow and Beaverton School Districts.
The Graduate School of Education Advisory Council includes education and community leaders from the Portland metro area who play key roles in giving thoughtful direction to the policies and operations of the GSE.
“Jim has been an active member of the council since 2011, and he has chaired the council the last three years,” said Dean Randy Hitz. “As chair, he helped develop agendas, and he expertly led the meetings. We truly value the council’s contribution to our program.”
