Two members retire from GSE Advisory Council

At the spring 2012 GSE Advisory Council meeting, two long-serving members were honored for their service to the GSE. Both Carol Thomas (left) and Carol Turner (right) have served on the board since its inception in 2005 and will step down this year.

Carol Thomas, PhD, is the outgoing CEO of Education Northwest (formerly Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory). Dr. Thomas caps a successful 30-year career working with educational laboratories across the west. Her successor at Education Northwest will be her deputy, Steve Fleischman.

Carol Turner, MSW, is a community leader and organizational development consultant. Her firm, Leadership for Action, has worked with scores of educational and nonprofit organizations in the region. Among other roles, she is a former PPS board member who brought insight and leadership to the Advisory Council.

“The Graduate School of Education Advisory Council includes education and community leaders from the Portland Metro Area that play a key role in giving thoughtful direction to the policies and operations of the GSE,” said Dean Randy Hitz. “Carol Thomas and Carol Turner were among the founding members of the Council and they have each contributed greatly to our work.”
