About the Learning Gardens Laboratory
The Learning Garden Laboratory (LGL) is a four-acre garden education site that provides public school students, university students, and community members hands-on and place-based education in sustainable gardening. Established in 2005, LGL exists as a unique partnership between Portland State University, Portland Public Schools, Portland Parks and Recreation, and Oregon State University Extension Service. Some of the garden-education programs include: Lane Middle School garden education with sixth graders, the Lane Family garden, and the Beginning Urban Farming Apprenticeship (BUFA) program.
The Graduate School of Education offers this specialization, Leadership for Sustainability Education (LSE)/LECL, in the Master’s in Educational Leadership.
