Learning Gardens celebrates Earth Day

The PSU Learning Gardens Laboratory at the Green Thumb Site (6801 SE 60th) will host its third annual Earth Day Celebration on Saturday April 21, from 11am-1pm.

The event is free and open to the public. Community members are invited to attend this family-friendly event that will include educational booths and workshops on gardening and sustainable living for both children and adults. The event will also include free food, live music, children’s activities, a plant give away, and door prizes.

About the Learning Gardens Laboratory
The Learning Garden Laboratory (LGL) is a four-acre garden education site that provides public school students, university students, and community members hands-on and place-based education in sustainable gardening. Established in 2005, LGL exists as a unique partnership between Portland State University, Portland Public Schools, Portland Parks and Recreation, and Oregon State University Extension Service. Some of the garden-education programs include: Lane Middle School garden education with sixth graders, the Lane Family garden, and the Beginning Urban Farming Apprenticeship (BUFA) program.

The Graduate School of Education offers this specialization, Leadership for Sustainability Education (LSE)/LECL, in the Master’s in Educational Leadership.
