At the annual State of the School reception, GSE dean Randy Hitz recognized Rudy Rudolph, who recently retired as principal of Winterhaven School. Winterhaven is a K-8 math, science, technology focus-option school in Portland Public Schools (PPS). She spent 40 years in education and 23 years as a principal. Her career has taken a zig-zag path – she was a teacher, then principal, then teacher again, then district administrator, and finally retired as a principal. She served as principal of Winterhaven School in PPS from 2001-2004, and again from 2008-2010.
Rudy is a person full of energy and has a passion for leading and learning. Her trademark is knowing all of the students in her school by name. She has worked with many teacher candidates over the years and welcomed the opportunity to rethink approaches taken in typical field experiences. She was excited to partner closely with PSU and engage mentor teachers as collaborators and provide co-teachers with interns.
