GSE professor wins coveted Oregon Book Award

Literary Arts will present GSE Professor Emeritus Ulrich Hardt with the 2012 Walt Morey Young Readers Literary Legacy Award as part of the annual Oregon Book Awards ceremony. The award will be presented to Professor Hardt in recognition of his significant accomplishments in Oregon’s literary community.

“I was really quite surprised and of course also pleased about receiving this recognition,” said Professor Hardt. “I’m deeply grateful to the GSE and to PSU for encouraging my involvements with professional organizations and the schools across the state.”

Among his accomplishments, Dr. Hardt has edited the Oregon English Journal for 25 years. The journal, which is peer reviewed, features many articles from PSU faculty, submissions from Oregon’s Poets Laureate, and many other Oregon writers and educators.

For the past 25 years he has organized and directed the Oregon Writing Festival, bringing approximately one thousand students in grades 4-12 from throughout the state to the PSU campus each year.

This year’s annual Oregon Book Awards, sponsored by Literary Arts, will be held on April 23, 2012. The event honors Oregon writers in every genre and individuals who have made significant contributions to literature and publishing.
